As winter sets in and the evenings get darker, it is important that you prepare your car for the sometimes hazardous winter months.
Here are a few tips for making sure you and your car are safe over the coming months.
This very simple and very quick check can prove to be so important. Ask a friend or family member to check that all of your lights are fully operational. From headlamps and indicators to brakes and reversing lights, all are of equal importance.
Soggy leaves, wet surfaces and even snow can make driving in the winter more dangerous. To avoid uncertainty, reduce your speed when cornering and allow more space when braking. Your tyres are the only point of contact between you and the road so check the condition of them regularly. Look out for signs of damage, excessive wear or bulges in the sidewall of tyres, and don’t forget to check all pressures. Remember, the minimum legal tread depth is 1.6mm and at 3mm the tyres are 78% worn.
Windscreen and Wipers
Glare and bright lights are a common distraction at this time of year so make sure your windscreen is clean inside and out and that chips and scratches are repaired.
Wiper blades need to be replaced if they smear or squeak. If the rubber is split on your wiper, ensure you have them changed.
Have your brakes inspected regularly. At Currie Motors we will check your brake pads, disc and brake fluid level if required. Please ask for a quote.
