Four years ago at the Detroit Motor Show Lexus showed the world the LF-LC concept car, exciting customers and the media alike. Now four years on at the same show, inspired by the original concept car, the LC 500 was proudly unveiled to the world.
The new LC 500 proves that closer collaboration between design and engineering teams can result in something spectacular. Engineering teams worked tirelessly to find new solutions that would allow as much of the concept to be retained in the production car as possible. Likewise, vehicle designers were very involved from the earliest stages of the dynamic development process to understand the engineering targets and contribute design viewpoints and potential solutions.
At first glance it is very evident that much of the LF-LC’s design ideology has been transferred to the new LC 500. The athletic, aerodynamic shape comes with a glass roof as standard, however a carbon fibre roof option is available. Lexus’s signature spindle grille is prominent on the front of the vehicle, bordered by chrome on three sides, with a new 3D mesh design that varies in visual tension. Al L-shaped daytime running light sits below new triple-LED headlamp units, allowing for a low bonnet line with a short front overhang. A rear diffuser and optional rear spoiler help manage airflow when driving at high speed. The wheels are 20-inch machined cast aluminium or optional 21-inch forged aluminium.
The interior design is just as luxurious as the exterior. The driving position invites a sporting drive. In fact the driver’s hip-point was engineered to be as close as possible to the car’s centre of gravity where feedback from the car is strongest. Excellent support and comfort is offered in the front seats. Optional sports seats are available and have extra bolstering for more lateral support when cornering. The door panels, centre console and dashboard structures display Lexus’s world renowned takumi craftsmanship in their fine detailing and finish.
The LC 500 includes the 2017 Lexus Multimedia package, featuring updated, faster and more flexible software that will enable future enhancements and a graphic user interface. There is also the option of a Mark Levinson audio package. The model will be equipped with Lexus Safety System+.
